As your NB2 Miata age, it is inevitable at some point during your rebuild/refresh to remove the VVT cam gear. The original VVT cam gear gasket is most likely worn out by now. The screws are likely to be stripped during removal.
 
Mazda has already discontinued this product. Lucky for us, Maruha Motors took on the task of manufacturing these and making some minor but neccessary improvements along the way.
 
Definitely a recommended item when replacing or servicing your VVT camshafts.
